Presentation to Address Youth Crime and Gangs Saturday, October 18 (Same presentation, both locations) BE AWARE – youth crime and gang activity are on the rise in the Poconos. A “Community Safety Awareness” presentation on these issues will be held on at two East Stroudsburg Area School District locations/times (same presentation. This is a free presentation sponsored by the ESASD. The presentation is open to everyone and will be especially informative for the community leaders, community associations, parents, teachers and students of East Stroudsburg. The featured speaker will be Michael Leonard Sr., a criminal justice consultant, author and gang expert. The Rallying Youth Organized Together (RYOT) Against Rape from Safe Haven, Inc. will also present a socio-drama on the dangers of gang-related activity.

Black Bear Film Festival ENVIROFEST - free movies at Grey Towers Sunday, October 19, 10:00 – 4:30 The Black Bear Film Festival, in keeping with its mission—to support innovative and independent films while recognizing Pike County’s history as the birthplace of the American conservation movement—presents ENVIROFEST, co-sponsored once again by Grey Towers Heritage Association (www.greytowers.org) and located at Grey Towers (www.fs.fed.us/gt), in Milford. ENVIROFEST, coordinated by Heron’s Eye Communications, will offer a provocative selection of free environmentally-focused films, dialogues and information booths in three venues on the grounds of Grey Towers: The Pool Terrace, The Letter Box and The Bait Box. Wayne County Chamber Breakfast with our Legislators Friday, October 24, 7:30 a.m. The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce is proud to present a chamber sponsored breakfast with our State legislators: Senator Lisa Baker and State Representatives Sandra Major, Ed Staback and Michael Peifer. The purpose of this event is to provide an opportunity for the public and legislators to meet, greet, network, and learn. Any specific questions or topics of interest should be submitted with your reservation. This is a great opportunity for Chamber Members and the community to hear from our State legislators about local issues and how the State budget impacts our economy. PEEC-A-Boo Halloween Trail Saturday, October 25, 3 – 9 p.m. Are you looking for something interesting for your little ghouls to do this year? Then bring your family out to the Pocono Environmental Education Center’s (P.E.E.C.) annual PEEC-A-BOO Halloween Trail, for an evening of learning and Halloween fun. Follow your guide around PEEC’s family-friendly trail and learn about nocturnal animals, whoooo lives in the forest, and much more. You and your family will even have the chance to listen to a story around the campfire! Enjoy fun crafts and entertainment before and after your journey. Refreshments will be available for a nominal fee throughout the day. The event will take place from 3 – 9 p.m. with trails running every 15-minutes. Each trail lasts approximately 45-minutes. Reservations are highly recommended to ensure a trail time and the event will be held rain or shine. Trail times are filling up quickly, so call PEEC today to reserve a time for your family at (570) 828-2319. The cost is $5 per person and children 3-years and under are free. Bring a flashlight to use on the trail. Strollers are not recommended for the enchanted trail.

Wayne County Chamber Community Awards Banquet Thursday, November 6, 7 p.m. The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce announces its upcoming Community Awards Banquet. The committee has been hard at work planning the event. Awards will be given for Business Person of the Year, Community Achievement and Healthy Workplace. Business Person of the Year is Rudy Schemitz, Jr., of New Wave Woodworking. The Community Achievement Award will be given to Robert J.M. Knash. During the evening, the Chamber will also present two Healthy Workplace awards to area businesses that are committed to the overall well being of their staffs. The social hour will begin at 6 PM. Dinner will be at 7 PM. Tickets are $65 each and are available by calling the Chamber at 253-1960. A commemorative booklet is being prepared for the evening. Space is available for those wishing to advertise and join in the recognition of the honorees. Ads start at $35.

Upper Delaware 30-Year Retrospective Saturday, November 8, 9 – 5 The 30th anniversary of the designation of the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River will be commemorated with a symposium, co-sponsored by the National Park Service (NPS) and Upper Delaware Council (UDC). Reservations are requested by October 31. The “Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River Thirty-Year Retrospective” will provide an opportunity for participants to learn about the evolution, current operations, and future of this valued unit of the National Park System. The public is welcome to attend. A registration fee of $25 per person for this historical symposium includes breakfast, a hearty buffet lunch, and refreshments during breaks between the panel discussions. A cash bar will be offered at the end of the day for old and new friends to socialize.
