TOBYHANNA – Police charged an 80-year-old man following an accident that caused a minor injury to a flagman in a work zone. Donald Collier allegedly kept on going after he struck Evan Hendriks, of Warminster, who was holding a line of southbound traffic on Route 196. Hendriks told police the lead vehicle kept drifting forward, so he moved in front of the vehicle. The vehicle accelerated, throwing him over the hood. The vehicle was stopped by a witness a short distance away. Collier claimed he was unaware he had hit anyone. His wife told police Collier may have panicked due to a medical condition. Charges of careless driving, duty of driver in a construction area and failure to notify police of an accident, are pending against Collier. Hendriks was treated for a possible broken wrist.
