Bushkill man indicted $300,000 in Medicaid fund fraud |

WHITE PLAINS NY – A federal grand jury has indicted the former executive director of Guest House Community Services, Inc., a non-profit group in Peekskill, New York, funded by Medicaid. According to the indictment, Joseph Akumu of Bushkill Falls, PA obtained over $300,000 in Medicaid funds belonging to Guest House by misappropriating Medicaid checks payable to the agency and by using agency funds for personal expenses. Akumu founded Guest House and ran it until 2010. Guest House served developmentally disabled people in Westchester County. The indictment charges Akumu with embezzlement from an organization that receives funds under a federal program. If convicted, he could receive up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
