DeNaples owes $2.3M in federal taxes

ALLENTOWN – A federal tax judge ruled that former Mount Airy casino owner Louis DeNaples owes $2.3 million in taxes.  The money reportedly is owed on a settlement Louis DeNaples and his brother, Dominick, received from PennDOT over land seized for highway construction, in Lackawanna County.

Both brothers owe $2.3 million each, covering the tax years of 2003, 2004 and 2005.

The DeNaples reportedly argued that some of the interest from the settlement should have been tax exempt.

The land was taken for the construction of the Casey Highway, A Route 6 bypass linking Scranton with Carbondale.
