Roadwork begins this week on I-80, Route 33/209

ALLENTOWN – Two road improvement projects get underway early this week in Monroe County.  One is on Interstate 80, beginning today.  The other begins tomorrow on Route 33/209 in Hamilton Township.

PennDOT Engineering District 5 says the project to improve Interstate 80 in Jackson and Pocono townships, includes roadway patching, milling, paving, updating guide rail, line painting and other miscellaneous construction on Interstate 80 between exit 293 (JCT I-380) and exit 299 (PA 715).

Starting Monday, there will be weeknight lane restrictions on I-80 east between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Work will switch to I-80 west when the I-80 east work is complete. Updates will be provided whenever traffic patterns change.

Construction is expected to finish in October.

James D. Morrissey, Inc. of Philadelphia is the contractor on the $4,727,160 project.

PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check interstate traffic conditions before heading out.

The project to improve PA 33/US 209 in Hamilton Township, Monroe County will begin Tuesday.

The project calls for concrete patching, shoulder upgrades, resurfacing, drainage upgrades and guide rail upgrades on PA 33/US 209 between the Lehighton exit and the northern PA 33/US 209 split. Also included is the rehabilitation of the PA 33/US 209 Snydersville (Manor Drive) interchange ramps and the PA 33/US 209 Lehighton interchange ramps.

Beginning Tuesday, motorists should be alert for nighttime lane restrictions on PA 33 north between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., and day or night lane restrictions on PA 33 south. Motorists should use caution and allow for extra time traveling through the area. Updates will be provided when traffic patterns change.

Also, the PA 33/US209 north on ramp at the Snydersville (Manor Drive) interchange will be closed and detoured August 16 -23 for ramp work. Manor Drive motorists wishing to access PA 33/US 209 north will follow the posted detour of PA 33/US 209 south to US 209 south (Lehighton), US 209 south to Business Route 209 (Sciota), and Business Route 209 south to US 209 north which becomes PA 33/US 209 north.

In February, PennDOT awarded Hanson Aggregates Pennsylvania, LLC of Allentown, Lehigh County, the $5,834,039 contract to improve this highway. All work is expected to be complete in December.

This is a design-build project. Design-build is a project delivery system where the design and construction aspects are contracted with a single entity, in this case Hanson Aggregates Pennsylvania LLC.
