ALLENTOWN – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced the Greenview Drive Bridge over McMichael Creek in Hamilton Township, Monroe County is open. It had been closed since May 2008 due to structural deterioration. A replacement project began in July 2009.
Workers demolished the old single-span, concrete encased steel I-beam bridge and constructed a new single-span, concrete box-beam bridge. The project also included new bridge roadway approaches, line paint and drainage upgrades.
During the closure, traffic was detoured on US 209, Business Route 209 and Neola Road.
DESCCO Design and Construction, Inc. of Fleetwood, Pa. was the general contractor on the $928,721 project.
The old Greenview Drive Bridge was constructed in 1920. It was posted with a 15-ton weight restriction in 1986 and was closed in 2008. The Bridge had an average daily traffic of 811 vehicles before the closure. |
