More support for Dansbury Depot preservation

EAST STROUDSBURG – Rep. Paul Kanjorski is the latest to say he will do what he can to get money for preservation of what’s left of the Dansbury Depot.  Kanjorski made his pledge during a visit to East Stroudsburg Thursday.

The Democrat rep said he would seek federal money to help cover the cost of moving the remaining portion of the fire-damaged structure to a temporary location, then eventually, a permanent location.

According to published reports, the Eastburg Community Alliance is close to having the $300,000 needed just to move the salvageable portion of the depot to a temporary location.  That’s likely to be a nearby parking lot.

Up to another $500,000 will be needed to move the depot to a permanent home, and renovate it.

The exact final location has not been resolved, but Miller Park, near the depot’s historic location, is considered likely.  East Stroudsburg officials need to resolve some issues.

Fire, last October, heavily damaged most of the 146-year-old structure that originally, was a train station, and in recent years, was a popular restaurant and bar.
