COOLBAUGH TWP - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation held a dedication ceremony, Thursday, to commemorate the naming of PA 611 between Main Street and Interstate 380 in Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County, honoring Trooper Joshua Miller, who died in action on Route 611 last year.

Attending the event were family members, hundreds of troopers, District Executive Michael W. Rebert, P.E., State Senator Robert J. Mellow, State Representative Mario M. Scavello, State Representative James Wansacz, and numerous other elected officials and dignitaries.

The state legislature passed a bill naming PA 611 the Trooper Joshua D. Miller Memorial Highway. After the legislature passed the bill Governor Edward G. Rendell signed it into law, and PennDOT will unveil a sign naming the highway after Trooper Miller.

Trooper Miller was killed in the line of duty on June 7, 2009 while attempting to apprehend a kidnapping suspect. While engaged in a gun battle with the suspect, another State trooper and a local police officer were able to rescue the nine-year-old child who was being abducted.

Trooper Miller was a six-year veteran of the Pennsylvania State Police and had received several commendations for his work protecting the citizens of the Commonwealth.
