Winter storm wallops region

POCONOS – The biggest storm of the winter may wind up not being quite as big as predicted, but it was big enough to bring the Poconos to a standstill for the day.  All school districts and many government offices closed for the day.

Snow totals ran from about six inches in Milford to 16 inches in Saylorsburg.

While there were no official road closings in Monroe, Pike and Wayne counties, Gov. Edward Rendell did order portions of several interstates, closed.

Driving problems are likely to continue throughout Thursday, because of blowing snow.  Side streets and rural roads may remain snow covered.

Both Met-Ed and PPL reported scattered power outages in Monroe County, as of 8 p.m. Wednesday.  By this morning, both utilities reported full power restored.
