NPS hearings on power line begin tonight

The 500 kv line would follow "Route B"

BUSHKILL – The National Park Service is the final entity yet to sign off on the Susquehanna-Roseland transmission line.  Pennsylvania and New Jersey have given their approvals.

The NPS holds three hearings beginning tonight, in Bushkill.

The Park Service is already on record opposing the specific route favored by PPL.  The route would bisect the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.  It would also cut through the large Saw Creek residential development, and opposition there has been very vocal.

The NPS says the line would be very disruptive to the purpose of the DWGNRA, and harmful to the ecosystem.  The Park Service suggests the discussion over alternative routes be reopened.

Tonight’s hearing  is from 6:00 to 8:30, at the Fernwood on Route 209.  Two more hearings will be held same time Wednesday night, at Camp Jefferson on Weldon Road in Lake Hopatcong NJ, and Thursday, at the Sheraton Parsippany Hotel on smith Road in Parsippany.
