Storm stalls, more snow to come |
||||||
POCONOS – Near-blizzard conditions were prevalent by early evening, with gusty winds and blowing snow, but the snow accumulation was not quite what was predicted, by some forecasters. Accumulations were widely variable, but were mostly under eight inches, as of 6 p.m. By early morning, however, 19 inches was reported in Pocono Summit. The bad news is that the huge storm has stalled, and a few more inches of snow could accumulate as the storm winds down.. There are major road problems. Speed limits have been lowered on all interstates in eastern Pennsylvania, including the northeast extension of the Turnpike. Interstate 84 east was closed Thursday evening, at the Matamoras Exit (53) because of a jackknifed tractor trailer at Exit 2 on the New York side, about six miles from the Delaware River. The highway reopened late last night. All interstates are open, but not to commercial traffic until further notice. Speed limits have been reduced to 45 mph. The interstates are snow-covered everywhere in northeast Pennsylvania. As of 8 p.m., Met Ed was reporting outages in Milford and Stroudsburg. That power has been restored, but a few other isolated outages are reported throughout the three counties. PPL reported two isolated outages, in northern Pike County and Western Monroe County. |
