Counties bracing as Pennsylvania budget cuts become permanent

MILFORD - The Pike County Commissioners have learned that some $170 million cut from the state budget they thought was just a freeze, is now permanent. The word from the state is that the next year’s budget could be worse according to Republican Commissioners Harry Forbes and Richard Caridi.

Many of the human services areas, which the county funds in advance, will face cuts of varying percentages.

” Now people know why we were reluctant to come forth with a budget for next year”, Caridi explained.

“We are going to take it one day at a time.” Commissioner Forbes added,” We’re not going to panic just yet.”
