HONESDALE - Wayne County officials announced the kick-off of the Wayne County Prescription Drug Discount Program. In conjunction with the National Association of Counties (NACO), these cards are being distributed in various Wayne County locations and can help those without prescription drug coverage obtain a discounted price on medications. It may also assist those with prescription drug coverage obtain discounts on non-covered medications.
The program is sponsored by Caremark and is a nationally recognized discount card program which saves on average 20% off the pharmacy’s list price of medications. There are currently 16 locations in Wayne and the immediate Pike county area that accept the card. Most national chain pharmacies participate in the program.
Cards are available at all participating pharmacies and Area Agency on Aging; Honesdale, Hawley and Hamlin Senior Centers, Wayne County Children and Youth Agency, Wayne County MH/MR/EI, Bureau of Elections, Wayne County Commissioners Office, Wayne County Job Training, Wayne County Domestic Relations Office and the seven libraries in the Wayne Library Alliance. The Wayne County Commissioners are happy to bring this opportunity to the citizens of Wayne County. The current economic climate has many people searching for assistance in all aspects of their life. This program may be able to provide enough savings to people that they may be able to afford medication that was unaffordable in the past. Many counties throughout the state currently participate in the program with great success.
