River Road closing for maintenance work |

BUSHKILL - River Road in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area will be closed for road maintenance beginning at midnight tonight, and will re-open on at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 28. “During this closure, our roads and trails employees will be removing hazard trees, stabilizing road shoulders, and improving drainage to enhance the road safety enjoyed by every park visitor,” said Superintendent John Donahue. Completion of the work during this four-day period is dependent on the weather. Gates at the Hialeah picnic area on the southern end of River Road within the park and at headquarters near the intersection of Hidden Lake Road and River Road to the north will be closed and locked. Drivers who normally use River Road are advised to plan on using any of the several alternative routes available between Bushkill and points south. “We are very proud of the continuous improvements we have been able to make in our park roads over the last five years. Our maintenance staff, planners, and resource managers are continually working to provide a better and safer park experience for all of our visitors and local communities,” Donahue added.
