Pike County bridge replacement begins

SHOHOLA - PennDOT Engineering District 4 begins work, today, on a bridge replacement project in Pike County financed with federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The Route 1005 Shohola Bridge over the Shohola Creek in Shohola Twp., Pike County, will be closed and a detour utilizing Routes 434 and 1006 (Knealing Rd.) will be put in place.

Work includes removal and replacement of the current bridge, reconstruction of the bridge approach, drainage work, installation of pavement markings and other miscellaneous construction. PennDOT awarded this $1.69 million contract to Leeward Construction, Inc. of Jessup, Lackawanna County. PennDOT expects the project to be completed in September.

Within the six-county region of northeastern Pennsylvania, PennDOT will invest $72 million of federal economic recovery funds on 23 transportation projects, which include road and bridge improvements and curb ramp replacements.
