Talk/text ban faces House vote

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania House may vote today on a measure that ban the use of handheld electronic devices while driving.   The measure cleared a key committee Monday.

Under provisions of the, anyone caught talking or texting, using a handheld device, would face a $50 fine.  Calling 911 or using a GPS would remain legal.

The bill defines a violation as a ‘primary offense’ meaning police could pull over a driver for that violation only.

The Senate has yet to take up the measure.
