AG urges Toyota owners to report any problems

HARRISBURG - In response to this week's announcement that Toyota would recall 2.3 million vehicles to correct sticking accelerator pedals, along with Toyota's instructions to dealers that they temporarily suspend the sales of eight models involved in the recall, Attorney General Tom Corbett urged all Toyota owners in Pennsylvania to carefully review information about the safety recall, document any safety issues and report any difficulties obtaining service or repairs.

"In situations such as this, public safety must be our top priority," Corbett said. "Toyota owners, along with other motorists and concerned citizens, need clear and accurate information in order to determine the impact of this issue on the safety of themselves and their families."

Corbett encouraged Toyota owners to review official information about the recall to determine if their vehicle is affected, along with Toyota's Frequently Asked Questions and instructions for the owners of these vehicles, or contact Toyota's Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331.

Corbett also urged all vehicle owners to report possible safety defects or incidents to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), so that they can be properly investigated and evaluated.  He noted that NHTSA conducts defect investigations and administers national safety recalls as part of its mission to improve highway safety across the United States.  Safety complaints can also be filed by calling the NHTSA toll-free Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236.
