Persistent DWI offender will spend at least four years in prison

MILFORD - A Pocono Ranchlands man was sentenced in Pike County Court of Common Pleas to a period of incarceration in a state correctional facility of not less than four years to not more than ten years.

Frederick Schoenwandt, 48, entered guilty pleas to three separate counts of driving under the influence which occurred on November 28, 2008, August 14, 2009 and December 12, 2009.  Schoenwandt admitted that on November 28, 2009 in Lehman Township he drove when he was incapable of safely doing so because he was under the influence of alcohol. Schoenwandt refused to submit to testing to determine his blood alcohol content.

At the time of his arrest, he punched and kicked walls and table in the holding area of the police station which resulted in a conviction for disorderly conduct. He was sentenced to a period of not less than two years to not more than five years for these offenses.

Schoenwandt also admitted that on August 14, 2009, he drove his vehicle in Pocono Ranchlands when his blood alcohol content was .240, or three times the legal limit.  He was sentenced to a period of not less for two years to not more than five years incarceration for this offense.

Finally, Schoenwandt admitted that on December 12, 2009, he operated his vehicle in Pocono Ranchlands when he was incapable of safely doing so because he was under the influence of alcohol. He was sentenced to a period of not less than two years to not more than five years for this offense. The period of incarceration on the last offense will run concurrently with his conviction on the first two offenses.

In total, Schoenwandt will serve an aggregate term of incarceration in a state correctional facility of four years to ten years. He will also be subject to $ 7,750.00 in fines and a license suspension of four and a half years.

Pike County District Attorney Ray Tonkin thanked the Pennsylvania State Police, National Park Service, Pocono Ranchlands Security and the concerned citizens who assisted in securing the convictions of this recidivist DUI offender.
