Pike woman going to prison for fatal DUI accident |

MILFORD - Lauren Phillips, 25, of Lackawaxen, PA was sentenced to a State Correctional Facility for 2-1/2 to 5 years, pay a fine of $3,200, had her driver’s license suspended for 36 months and ordered to pay restitution for the crimes of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, driving under the influence, accidents involving death or injury while not properly licensed and driver’s required to be licensed. On November 22, 2007 on Welcome Lake Road in Lackawaxen, PA, Phillips lost control of her vehicle hitting a tree which resulted in the death of Ronald Turbiak, 52, a friend and passenger. Through a blood test it was determined that Phillips was driving under the influence of marihuana and alcohol, with a blood alcohol level of .217%, or more than three times the legal limit. Phillips did not possess a valid license.
Other sentences handed down this week by Pike County President Judge Joseph F. Kameen: Tyrone Sutton, 39, of East Stroudsburg, PA was sentenced to the Pike County Jail for 11-1/2 months to 23 months, pay a fine of $825.00, have his driver’s license suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay restitution for the crimes of Receiving Stolen Property, and Duty to Give Information and Render Aid. On May 24, 2009, Sutton, did operate a Yellow 2007 GMC Box Truck, knowing it had been stolen. While driving the truck Sutton was involved in an accident in The Falls at Saw Creek, in Lehman Township, and failed to remain at the scene to exchange information, and render aid to the operator of the other vehicle. Thomas Howells, II, 28, of Bushkill, PA was sentenced to the Pike County Jail for 14 to 30 days, pay a fine of $250.00 and have his driver’s license suspended for 12 months for the crime of Possession of a Small Amount a Marihuana. On October 16, 2009, at Kangaroo Court, in Lehman Township, Howells was found in possession of the stems of a marihuana plant, and a few leaves, which he was using for his consumption. Juan Anderson, 41, of Richmond Hill, NY was sentenced to the Pike County Jail for 72 hours to 6 months, pay a fine of $1,000.00 and have his driver’s license suspended for 12 months for the crime of Driving Under the Influence. On June 21, 2008, on Rt 6 in Shohola and Lackawaxen Township, Anderson was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. His blood alcohol level was .212%. Zachary Gogolen, 29, of Matamoras, PA was sentenced to the Pike County Jail for 3 months to 12 months, pay a fine of $400.00 and have his driver’s license suspended for 6 months for the crime of Possession of Controlled or Counterfeit Substance, On July 2, 2009 at 122 Rose Lane, Westfall Township, Pike County, Gogolen was found to be in possession of Heroin. |
