Death penalty stayed for pit bull that attacked singer

SHOHOLA – Bella, the pit bull, who bit Grammy-nominated pop singer Vanessa Carlton, near her home, two weeks ago, will not be put down, and will get a new home.

According to reports, friends and neighbors of the dog’s owners, have joined forces to rescue the dog, who was to be euthanized Friday.   The owner claimed he could not afford the very high insurance and registration fee required, under law, for dogs deemed dangerous.

The nine-month-old dog was not under physical restraint, but there was an electronic ‘fence’ in operation on the owner’s property.  Bella went through the electronic barrier and attacked Carlton, as she was jogging.

Carlton sustained bites, but no infection.  She reportedly has recovered.

The dog was impounded for ten days, and was found to be in good health.
