WTC beam passes through Pike County

Escorted by police and fire units, the beam proceeds slowly down Pennsylvania
Avenue in Matamoras. Small groups of people gathered to watch.

WESTFALL TWP – A piece of somber history stopped in Pike County, and was given the honors sometimes reserved for heroes.  Some two dozen fire trucks and police units gathered to escort a ten-foot beam that was part of the World Trade Center from Westfall Town Center, to what will be its final resting place, a memorial some 15 miles away in the New York Town of Deerpark.

“It’s a great honor to be a part of this” said Pike Regional Police Assistant Chief Eric Stewart

Some families and a few small groups of citizens stood along Pennsylvania Avenue, some waving flags, as the procession slowly headed toward to bridge to New York, Thursday afternoon.
