Former UN official’s sex sting trial delayed

STROUDSBURG – Former United Nations chief weapons inspector Scott Ritter will wait a bit longer to go on trial on a charge of unlawful contact with a minor.

Ritter was arrested last year after chatting, online, with what he thought was a 15-year-old girl.  The ‘girl’ was actually an undercover investigator with the Barrett Township Police Department.

Ritter’s defense attorneys contend there has been improper conduct by the prosecution for allowing access to a similar case against Ritter, nine years ago, in his hometown of Albany NY.  Those charges were dismissed.

The judge in Monroe County court is allowing both the defense and prosecution more time to prepare briefs for review prior to trial.

No new date has been set for the trial.
