MIDDLE SMITHFIELD TWP – Local developer Steve Ertle is buying the Fernwood Resort and Convention Center and reportedly plans several upgrades to the aging facility. 

According to media reports, the plans include bringing in some name restaurants, including a Big Daddy’s Barbecue, a deli and a sports bar.  The current staff will be retained.

Ertle purchased the resort from Bushkill Group which will continue to own and operate the golf course.

Fernwood received a major setback earlier this year when the state Gaming Control Board their application for a Category 3 casino.
