Parents charged in brutal death of infant

LAKE ARIEL – The discovery of a newborn infant, buried near Hamlin, Friday night,  led to the arrest of the infant’s father, Christopher Fitzpatrick, 20, of Lake Ariel.  He is accused of smashing the infant’s skull with a cinder block.

The Mother, Jennifer Barrise, will also face charges.

Police were tipped off to the case, by authorities in New Jersey, who were inquiring about an unaccounted for newborn.  The investigation eventually led to Fitzpatrick, whow as contacted at his place of work.

Police say he admitted taking the baby to the woods and killing it.

Police say it appears the parents felt they could not afford to raise a child, and took the tragic course of action, rather than use resources that would have allowed them to turn the child over at a church, or to police, with no questions asked.

Fitzpatrick and Barisse are both charged with criminal homicide and concealing the death of a child.  They are being held without bail in the Wayne County Jail.
