MILFORD - United Way presented a $6,000 check to the Good Cheer Food Pantry. The pantry is at the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Greely.

“The United Way of Pike County is a major source of funding for the Good Cheer food pantry”, said Ann Schmalzle, pantry coordinator.  “Currently, the food pantry provides for 30-35 families in Pike County.  The goal of the Good Cheer Food Pantry is to provide the best service it can to those in need and we are committed to make sure that families will not go hungry.”

John Gilpin, UWPC Vice President and Pike County Treasurer, said: “We are very aware of the financial strain that the economy has put on our residents. Many of our community members are in need right now and are having to make tough choices. Hunger is a huge problem that is not always visible. With that in mind, we have to help our local food pantries re-stock the shelves. I am proud to be part of a community that comes together to support their friends and neighbors in need. Our special thanks to Ann Schmalzle and all of the volunteers at Good Cheer!”
