American to end flights to NEPA |

AVOCA – American Airlines is dropping its service to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport in a month. The last flight in the Chicago service will be on November 17, just over 15 months after the two daily round trips began. Media reports say American does not believe it is making enough money off the flights, even though passenger volume has been averaging about 95 percent. A news release from American, earlier this week, referenced only service changes, and did not specifically mention Scranton. “American Airlines today said it will adjust its late fall and winter schedule, which is expected to result in fourth quarter mainline capacity that is approximately 3 percent lower on a year-over-year basis.” Continental, Delta, United and US Airways are the other major carriers serving Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. |
