Wayne Memorial Opens Hyperbaric Oxygen Center

HONESDALE - Wayne Memorial Hospital opened a new Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Center at the hospital in Honesdale. In hyperbaric oxygen therapy, patients experience 100% oxygen under pressure in a controlled environment. The therapy is used to promote healing in chronic wounds, prevent possible limb loss and aid in the treatment of any wound issue where blood flow is compromised.

“We’re thrilled to be able to offer this service. It’s a treatment closer to home for many patients who experience problems with wound healing, such as diabetic wounds. They won’t have to travel,” said CEO David Hoff.  “It’s something we have wanted to implement for a long time, and now it’s here,”

The new Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Center, located next door to the Regional Wound Care Clinic at Wayne Memorial Hospital, houses two hyperbaric chambers. The Center is a partnership with Candescent Healing, a leading national wound care management company based in Tarrytown, New York. The Center’s medical director is Robert Gorrell, MD and its operations director is Lauren Klimek, LPN.

“I’m excited about starting up a new center,” said Klimek, “and I’m confident patients will find the treatment comfortable, welcoming and very helpful with their wound complications.”

“Wayne Memorial is a small community hospital, but we have state-of-the-art services,” said James Pettinato, RN, director of Patient Care Services. “Our hyperbaric oxygen therapy program is a good example of Wayne Memorial responding to a growing community need.”
