Millbrook Days Festival cancelled

BUSHKILL – The annual "Millbrook Days" folklife festival, scheduled for October 1-2, 2011, has been cancelled due to the storm damage and flooding caused by Tropical Storm Irene.

"The decision to cancel Millbrook Days was not easy. First held in 1971, it has long been one of the most popular annual events in the park," said John Donahue, Superintendent of Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. "Given the extent of storm damage throughout the park, our staff efforts must be directed toward resolving the many health and safety issues in the weeks ahead," he added.

Wil Bullivant, President of the Millbrook Society, said "We are disappointed that Millbrook Days had to be cancelled this year, but considering the extent of the problems that exist, it was the proper decision to make. The National Park Service and Millbrook Village Society are responsible for making our events enjoyable and safe for our visitors, volunteers and staff."

Village buildings, paths and bridges suffered significant damage, as did the roads and parking areas leading to the site. Assessment, repair and rehabilitation are underway; however, completion dates are yet to be determined.

Millbrook Days will return in October 2012. "We will strive to make next year's event the best one yet," said Donahue.
