COOLBAUGH TWP - Police say a 17-year-old girl is in critical condition after being shot in the head, apparently during a drug deal involving two other 17-year-olds.  The incident happened in a car, about 2:00 Thursday morning, on Pocono Heights Road near Tobyhanna.

The girl who was shot was a passenger in a car approached by Dominique Smith, 17, of Tobyhanna, who was attempting to purchase a bag of marijuana.  Apparently unhappy with the way the deal was going, police say Smith opened fire, discharging several rounds from a handgun.  The girl was the only one of the five in the vehicle who was hit.

Police later located Smith, in his girlfriend's car.  He fled but was later apprehended and is being held without bail on a charge of attempted homicide and other crimes.
