TANNSERSVILLE - At a recent convention of Veterans of Foreign Wars, President Obama announced a new program to provide more job training and education for veterans. Northampton Community College Vice President of Community Education, Paul Pierpoint, points out that NCC already has such a program in place.

A $1 million grant from the United States Department of Labor enables NCC to offer four non-credit diplomas to help veterans, laid-off or underemployed workers and others receive accelerated training to enter high-wage, high-demand jobs. They may choose to specialize in machinery repair, geo-thermal heat pumps, electrical construction, or air conditioning and refrigeration, all of which are considered high-demand fields in Pennsylvania. The programs can be completed in one year or less.

The grant is part of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) program. Tuition assistance from public funds administered through Pennsylvania Career Link may be available for those who meet the criteria.
