Black Bear Conservatory of Music expands children’s choir

HAWLEY - The Black Bear Conservatory of Music, based in Hawley, has expanded its Community Children's Choir program for the fall of 2012. Meeting on Tuesdays beginning September 25, the conservatory will offer a youth choir for students ages 4-8 year (K through 2nd Grade) and an intermediate choir for students ages 9-14 years (3rd grade through 8th grade).

Under the direction of Alvera Sylvester, a professional educator, singer, and clinician with more than 30 years of experience coaching the youth of the region, the program is open to all students throughout the Lake Region (PA), Sullivan County (NY), and surrounding regions.

No experience is necessary. Learn how to read music, gain confidence, and have fun in a relaxed professional atmosphere.  The season will culminate with a festive series of performances.

To kick off the 2012-13 choir season, BBCM is also offering a two-day Choir Boot Camp, entitled "Semper Fa."  This event will be offered at the Conservatory's main campus on Tuesday and Thursday, August 21 and 23rd, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.  "Semper Fa" is open to students, ages 4-14, who wish to expand their musical horizons in an interactive group setting. Singers, instrumentalists, and first-time musicians will have a blast learning the basics of singing, music making, and group collaboration.

Further information regarding both programs can be found on the Conservatory's website at www.blackbearmusic.org. Pre-registration begins now and can be done over the phone or in person at 519 Church Street, Hawley.

BBCM is a non-profit, community-based conservatory of arts dedicated to "Excellence in Music Education."
