Unlicensed precious metal dealer faces long list of charges |

SCOTRUN - Acting on information received from Monroe County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Gary Ciccone that there was a business operating without a precious metals license in the county, Detective Joseph Coddington of The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office went to “All American Gold and Silver Exchange” on route 611 in Scotrun on August 6, to investigate. The information received was that the license to purchase precious metals expired on June 6, and this business continued to purchase precious metals from the public. Investigation determined that the business was operating without a license from June 6, until August 3, when the owner finally renewed his precious metals license. The detective was able to obtain receipts from this business that showed shop owner Timothy Shadle continued to operate his business without the license. A license is required by law. Investigation further determined that in addition to operating without a license, Mr. Shadle failed to report transacted sales to the District Attorney’s Office as required by law. A criminal complaint has been filed charging Timothy Shadle with 50 misdemeanor counts of “Precious metals dealers required to be licensed” and 50 misdemeanor counts of “Records of transactions – Copy of record to District Attorney”. These charges have been filed with Magisterial District Judge Thomas Olsen. Stolen jewelry is frequently sold to precious metals dealers. Those transactions, when properly reported as required by law, often lead police to the identity of burglary suspects. When precious metals dealers fail to report all of their transactions, burglary suspects go unidentified. |
