PORT JERVIS – A 42-year-old man drowned Wednesday afternoon when he went for a swim in the Delaware River off Port Jervis, authorities said.

The name of the victim was withheld pending notification of relatives.

Firefighters and police were called to the scene at 4:30 p.m. The man had apparently gone swimming without a life jacket near Sleepy Hollow Road.
