Luzerne County man gets two years for theft from firearms dealer

SCRANTON – A Luzerne County man entered a guilty plea Wednesday and was sentenced to two years in prison for his role in a theft from a Monroe County firearms dealer.

Jerome Sharr, 21, of Wilkes-Barre, entered a guilty plea and admitted his involvement in the theft of twelve firearms from a federally licensed firearms dealer. Sharr, and another individual, David Toney, 20, of Hanover Township, were previously indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2011 and charged with the theft of the firearms from American Sport Shooting, located in Brodheadsville, Monroe County.

The investigation began on December 29, 2010, when a break-in occurred at American Sport Shooting. Twelve handguns were determined to be missing from the store. Subsequent searches by the Pennsylvania State Police resulted in the recovery of several of the handguns, including one located at the residence of David Toney in Hanover Township.

Sharr must also serve three years of supervised release following his prison sentence.

Charges against Toney are pending.
