Legislative reapportionment plan nullified

HARRISBURG – A Pennsylvania Supreme Court panel threw out the plan to redraw the state’s House and Senate districts, in accord with the 2010 census.  The divided court voted 4-3 to tell the Legislative Reapportionment Commission to try again.

“This Court finds that the final 2011 Legislative Reapportionment Plan is contrary to law”, said the decision issued Wednesday.  The ruling further states that the 2001 reapportionment plan shall remain in place until an acceptable new plan is presented.

Under the plan adopted by the Commission in December the following changes would have applied to Monroe, Pike and Wayne counties:

House:

111 – Part of Wayne

115 – Part of Monroe (district is entirely within Monroe)

139 - Parts of Pike, Wayne

176 – Part of Monroe (district is entirely within Monroe)

189 - Parts of Monroe and Pike

Senate:

20 – All of Pike, Wayne (parts of other counties)

45 – All of Monroe (part of Northampton)
