Pocono Health Foundation awards over $70,000 in community grants and scholarships

EAST STROUDSBURG - Pocono Health Foundation awarded over $70,000 to various community organizations and students. The presentation of these awards was part of PHF’s 20th annual grant reception, which was held at Pocono Medical Center (PMC).  

Kathleen E. Kuck, President and CEO of Pocono Health System/Pocono Medical Center explains that “In our mission to provide world class care, close to home and build a healthier community, we are linking the community together one step at a time.”

The ten Monroe County community organizations that were honored through the generosity of the Dr. Alberta Finch Children’s Health Endowment Fund and the Dr. Claus G. Jordan Endowment Fund include the following:

  1. American Red Cross of the Poconos
  2. Developmental Education Services of Monroe County, Inc.
  3. Family Promise
  4. Monroe County Meals on Wheels
  5. Pocono Alliance
  6. Pocono Area Transitional Housing
  7. The Salvation Army
  8. Valerie M. Hodge Memorial Dental Clinic
  9. Women’s Resources of Monroe County
  10. Youth Infusion

As a result of the R. Dale Hughes Nursing Scholarship Endowment, Jennie Cramer Memorial Nursing Scholarship, Robert A. Gordon Memorial Nursing Scholarship, and the Dr. Elmo J. Lilli Healthcare Scholarship the following students from northeastern Pennsylvania schools received scholarships:

  1. Kathleen Picerno of Stroudsburg, PA - $11,000.00
  2. Madys Gazard of Blakeslee, PA - $3,000.00
  3. Victoria Romano of Shohola, PA - $1,000.00
  4. Lori-Anne Penrose of Stroudsburg, PA - $3,000.00

The Monroe County Family Health Center also received a grant from the Community Health Fund. In addition to these grants and scholarships, three PMC physicians received grants from the William B. Cramer Medical Staff Equipment Endowment to enhance the medical services that they provide to the community.
