BUSHKILL - Bill Leonard, a longtime veteran with the NPS, has been named Deputy Superintendent for Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (DEWA). "I could not be more pleased that we have someone of Bill's character, experience and ability at the park as our new Deputy Superintendent," said Superintendent John Donahue. "He has all the skills necessary to successfully manage the many complex issues that arise in this park on a daily basis." Leonard is currently DEWA’s Chief of Strategic Planning and Project Management and was formerly Chief of Maintenance for the park. He has been with Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area for 11 years. Prior to his National Park Service career, Leonard served as the Facilities Engineer of the Tobyhanna Army Depot, where he worked for 19 years. He has supervised over one hundred people and overseen many important road, bridge and historic restoration projects. “I am honored to serve as the park’s new deputy superintendent,” said Leonard. “Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is a gem, and I will do my best to make sure it is preserved for the enjoyment of our visitors.” Leonard is a 1978 graduate of Penn State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He is also a Registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Leonard and his wife, Diane, make their home in Tobyhanna, where Leonard was born and raised. “Bill is a life-long resident of this area and a well known member of historical societies and sportsmen’s federations. The Ice Harvest he and his family have presented for public enjoyment for decades is a wonderful Poconos tradition,” said Donahue. |
