Remains found in South Carolina are of missing Monroe man

STROUDSBURG – Authorities have confirmed that human remains found in South Carolina are those of Joseph DeVivo, 87, a Monroe County man who disappeared three weeks ago.  An autopsy was performed today, but results are not yet available.

A suspect is in custody.  Rico Herbert reportedly provided information that led police to the body.

Investigators believe Herbert allegedly killed DeVivo in Monroe County, then drove to South Carolina where he dumped the body.  Herbert was in possession of Devivo’s car and wallet when he was arrested February 25, two days after DeVivo was last seen alive in Monroe County.
