MONROE CO – A one-car crash on Polk Township Road killed one passenger and injured another.  The driver escaped serious injury. 

The accident happened about 9:30 Saturday evening when the vehicle went out of control and struck a pole, ejecting the two passengers. 

Jesse Chmielewski, 21, died at the scene.  The other passenger, a 19-year-old,  was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver, also age 19, was taken to the hospital for an alcohol test.

State police are still investigating.

An unrelated  one-vehicle crash on Silver Springs Road in Eldred Township killed the driver early Sunday morning. 

Police say Les Young, 37, apparently lost control of his car, leaving the road and striking a tree, shortly before 5:30.  Young was dead at the scene.  It appears he was not wearing a seatbelt.
