PA voter ID law struck down in court |

HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania’s voter identification law will not be in play for this year’s Election Day, less than five weeks away, according to a ruling by a Commonwealth Court Judge. The ruling on Tuesday could be appealed. Judge Robert Simpson suspended the law for this year’s general election. It still could be fully implemented next year. The ruling means voters will not be required to show a valid state-issued photo ID on November 6. State Sen. John Yudichak (D-Luzerne/Carbon/Monroe) said he supports voter ID, but agrees with this ruling. “While I support the concept of Voter ID, I commend Judge Simpson on his ruling that will postpone the full implementation of the new law”, Yudichak said. “This ruling rightly ensures that not a single, eligible voter will be disenfranchised or turned away at the polls come election day.” |
