STROUDSBURG - Pocono Alliance Board of Directors unanimously voted to accept Pocono Township’s invitation to place the Crossing Abilities Playground at Mountain View Park, Tannersville, PA. This invitation stemmed from the undivided vote of Pocono Township Supervisors Frank Hess, Henry Bengel and Harold Werkheiser. The playground will be Monroe County’s first all-inclusive playground, catering to children with disabilities. Michael Tukeva, Executive Director of Pocono Alliance stated, “We hope to see children and families enjoy the playground equipment and watch as differences in abilities disappear.” Playing is a natural part of development and an all-inclusive playground structure provides the environment for children of all abilities to play together. Pocono Alliance has selected Mountain View Park as a central location in Monroe County. “Mountain View Park is an ideal location for a playground of this nature. Since exploring Mountain View Park as an option, Pocono Alliance has seen a greater interest in the development of Crossing Abilities by the community,” said John Koczwara, Pocono Alliance Board President and representative from Pennstar Bank. The playground equipment is projected to cost $200,000. Tukeva said. “The equipment is specialized to allow children with disabilities the same opportunity to play.” Donations and corporate sponsorships are welcomed. Pocono Alliance is submitting foundational grants to help offset the cost but is looking for the community to get involved, financially and with their time. Members of the community are invited to attend the Design Committee meeting on November 6th, 6PM at Pocono Alliance, 912 Main Street Suite 300 Stroudsburg, PA. Interested individuals should RSVP to information@crossingabilities.org and visit the Playground Design page on our website, www.crossingabilities.org/playground-design.php. |
