National Park Service opens newest section of McDade Trail

BUSHKILL – The section of Joseph M. McDade Recreational Trail near park headquarters is now open for hikers and cyclists.

“This is a key step toward the long-awaited completion of the trail,” said Superintendent John Donahue.

The trail consists of a 400-foot boardwalk  that is elevated above the wetland and provides visitors with a unique opportunity to access this highly diverse section of the park.  An observation platform along the trail offers views of the wetland and is one of the best locations in the park for observing wildlife.

The McDade Trail is a 32-mile multi-use trail on the Pennsylvania side of the park that can be accessed from Milford Beach ,at the northern terminus and Hialeah Recreation Site at the southern terminus and numerous access points in between.    Congress appropriated funding for the McDade Trail in 1996 and construction began in 2000.
