NJ man accused of swindling Hawley woman

PALMYRA TWP – A man accused of taking $9,000 from and using the money to bet on horses, instead of investing it, is expected to surrender this week.

According to reports, Samuel Slatus, 75, of Clifton NJ, took the money from the 72-year-old victim, promising to put the money in a bank account.    A police investigation revealed that in fact, the money went into Slatus’ personal account.  He was writing checks to himself.

Charges against Slatus include theft by unlawful taking
