MIDDLE SMITHFIELD TWP – Former Middle Smithfield Township Supervisor Bob Spano will spend up a year in jail.  Spano, who pled guilty in July to filing false financial statements, was sentenced on Wednesday to a term of three to twelve months.

According to published reports, the sentence went against a Probation Office recommendation that Spano, who had no prior record, get probation instead of jail. 

Spano could still face federal charges alleging insurance fraud.
