Underage drinking prevention programs get state funding

HARRISBURG – Two Monroe County organizations will receive grant funding from a Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board Program.  The program supports initiatives aimed at preventing underage and dangerous alcohol use.  Funding from the program supports a wide range of activities that include law-enforcement training, prevention programs and collegiate or community environmental management strategies.

In Rep. Mario Scavello (R, Monroe) 176th Legislative District, funding was awarded to:

  • East Stroudsburg University, $37,514
  • Stroud Area Regional Police Department, $39,769

The Bureau of Alcohol Education received 115 applications for the 2013-15 grant cycle.  The program will distribute more than $2.14 million over the next two years to more than 60 organizations across Pennsylvania.

“I want to congratulate East Stroudsburg University and the Stroud Area Regional Police Department,” Scavello said.  “Both groups are on the frontline of combating underage drinking; I know this funding will be put to good use.”
