Milford – The Pike County Conservation District had a good year, according to Michele Ulmer, Education and Outreach Coordinator. Ulmer told the Pike County Commissioners that during the year, board members went to 11 of 13 municipalities.
Other highlights from 2007:
- They met with members of the public, realtors, and contractors on issues covering conservation.
- The district was able to produce and distribute four direct mailings to bring awareness to Pike County landowners on the pressing planning and land uses issues of Pike County.
- There was once again a successful gypsy moth spray program conducted in the county.
- The district is in a 3 year county groundwater assessment with water quality high on the priority list as Pike County continues to grow.
- The seventeenth successful Envirothon was conducted last May 3rd at Promised Land State Park. A total of ten student teams participated from Delaware Valley, Wallenpaupack, Honesdale, and Western Wayne High Schools. This year’s competition will be held on May 8th.
