POCONOS - State House members from Monroe and Pike counties are seeking information from Vietnam War veterans so they can be invited to participate at an upcoming veterans recognition event on Memorial Day, announced Rep. Mario Scavello (R-176). The four legislators representing Monroe and Pike counties will host a Monroe and Pike County Vietnam War Era Veterans Recognition Event on May 26, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Fish Hill Road in Tannersville. To participate, certain information from veterans in the four House members’ districts will need to be collected by district office staff. Members of the delegation include Scavello and Reps. Mike Peifer (R-139); John Siptroth (D-189) and Mike Carroll (D-118). “It’s been more than 40 years since the beginning of the Tet Offensive, which marked perhaps the peak of fighting in the Vietnam War,” said Scavello. “The time has come to recognize veterans who served during that era for their service and sacrifice.” “Vietnam veterans deserve to be publicly thanked for their dedication and service to our country,” said Peifer. “This event will highlight their service and allow the House of Representatives to formally thank them for all they did for America.” “In the coming weeks, we will be reaching out to Vietnam War veterans for more details,” said Siptroth. “If you’d like to participate, please call your member’s office so that we can get the information we need to make the event a success.” Carroll added, “It will be my pleasure to personally shake the hand and present a commemorative medal to those who served our country during the Vietnam War.” Any Vietnam era veterans who would like to attend the ceremony should call their state representative’s district office.
