HARRISBURG – The Dauphin County District Attorney announced this morning that criminal charges against Louis DeNaples will be dropped, in return for his giving up control of Mount Airy Casino the operation he founded.

DeNaples had been charged with perjury for allegedly lying to a grand jury about his relations with reputed organized crime figures.

Also charged was DeNaples’ close associate, Father Joseph Sica.  Charages against Sica have also been withdrawn.

In a news release this morning, DA Edward Marsico Jr., said their “…primary goal in this investigation was to remove Mr. DeNaples from the gaming industry”.

DeNaples released his own statement.

“I am relieved and gratified that the District Attorney has recognized that the criminal charges against me are baseless, and that he has decided to do the right thing and drop the charges altogether”, said DeNaples.  “I have said from the start that I am innocent, and that’s the truth.  I have said from the start that I have no connection to organized crime, and that’s the truth.  I am glad that we have finally put these issues to rest.”

DeNaples’ three-paragraph statement makes no direct mention of the deal with the DA that resulted in the charges being dropped.

Under terms of the deal, DeNaples relinquishes control of the casino, which opened a year and a half ago.  Ownership passes on to a trust in the name of his daughter, Lisa DeNaples.  Louis DeNaples will be able to provide additional funding to Mount Airy.

All of this is subject to approval by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
