Stubborn fire burns vacant building

STROUDSBURG – A volunteer firefighter hurt his ankle during a blaze that took several hours to put down, in a long-vacant building.

The fire was reported about 4 Tuesday morning at the large building on the corner of Kraemer and North Second streets.  At one time, the building was a nursing home.  It was slated for demolition to make way for apartments.

A volunteer fireman sustained a broken ankle when a portion of a wall collapsed.

What caused the fire is under investigation.
