Airport getting longer runway

COOLBAUGH TOWNSHIP – The Pocono Mountain Municipal Airport is getting a longer runway, thanks in part to gaming revenues from the nearby Mount Airy Casino.  Ground was broken Friday on a runway extension, which should be ready for use later this year..

The additional 1,000 feel, extending the main runway to about 5,000 feet, will allow the airport to cater to corporate jets.  That’s seen as important in the rapidly growing area.

Half of the $4 million project is being covered by the first distribution of proceeds from the Mount Airy Casino.  A substantial amount of federal funding will make up the balance.
